The venue
Getting Married at 11,966 Feet Above Telluride
On the night you get married here, the only people at Alpino Vino are yours. The lifts have stopped and the last skiers are down. The restaurant sits alone in the trees above Telluride with its windows lit, at the highest point any wedding is held on this mountain.
From December through March it takes weddings of up to 24 guests — reached by snowcoach-drawn coach, with vows on the deck at sunset and dinner by the fire.
It is a small building, deliberately — one dining room, hand-hewn beams, stone floors, furniture built from reclaimed wine barrels, and a fireplace lit all evening. The reference is the rifugi of the Italian Dolomites, mountain huts built to shelter people who climbed a long way to reach them. Alpino Vino has been a restaurant since 2009, and before that it was a private retreat on an old Gold Hill mining claim.
There is no road, no parking and no other party in the building. That is the whole idea.

The day
What an Intimate Wedding at Alpino Vino Looks Like
The day begins with the climb. Your guests gather in Mountain Village and ride up together by snowcoach-drawn coach, winding through the pine forest along the See Forever run, until a small stone and timber chalet appears out of the trees.
You can take your vows on the deck as the sun goes down behind Mount Wilson, or start straight away with a prosecco toast by the fire. Dinner is Northern Italian, cooked in the same kitchen that serves the restaurant, with wines chosen course by course from a cellar built around Brunello and Barolo. On a clear night the stars come out over the snow beyond the windows.
The room holds up to twenty-four, and whoever you bring is all in it together — near enough to hear every toast, and to sit down to the same dinner at the same table.

The wedding party is collected in Mountain Village and towed up the See Forever run in an open coach behind a snowcoach — guests, grandparents, photographer and all. By the time you reach the door, the day has already started.
