Ski-In Lunch at Alpino Vino, Telluride

Alpino Vino serves ski-in Italian Alpine lunch daily from 11am to 3pm, at 11,966 feet on Gold Hill above Mountain Village, Colorado. There are no reservations — ride Gold Hill Express (Lift 14), ski down See Forever, and put your name down at the door.

The menu

The Alpino Vino Lunch Menu: Pasta, Panini and Antipasti

Italian Alpine: handmade pasta, panini, antipasti and salads, plus wine by the glass. Lunch is à la carte and first come, first served — no reservations, and a waitlist once the tables fill.

You will be in ski boots and so will everyone else. The room is small, the fire is lit, and the deck outside faces the Wilson Range.

The cellar is open at lunch too. The same list that runs the dinner pairings — Italian and American producers, with particular depth in Brunello and Barolo — is poured by the glass and the bottle on the deck or beside the fire.

The signature

The Signature Grilled Cheese and Tomato-Gorgonzola Soup

It is a grilled cheese sandwich, and it is the most talked-about dish on the mountain. Parmesan sourdough, double-cream Colorado cheese, basil pesto, with tomato soup alongside.

Ordinary on paper. The point is where you eat it — at 11,966 feet, on a deck in the sun, with the Wilson Range in front of you and your skis in the rack.

Getting a table

Lunch Seating, Hours and the Waitlist

Ski over early and put your name down. There are no reservations at lunch and it is a single small dining room, so the waitlist starts early on a good day.

Wine service runs on past the kitchen close, so an unhurried table on the deck is part of the appeal rather than an accident. The deck runs to an outdoor wine bar seating around fifty, so there is more room outside than the dining room alone suggests.Pending confirmation

There is no dress code. Lunch guests ski in and eat in their gear, boots and all — the room is a mountain hütte at midday, not a dining room you change for.
